Other Fibrates
With the exception of
fenofibrate, other fibrates have not been studied in combination with
ezetimibe (this includes
gemfibrozil). Taking ezetimibe with other fibrates is not recommended.
Cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran, Questran Light, LoCholest)
Taking
cholestyramine and ezetimibe together may cause a decrease of ezetimibe in the blood, which can affect its ability to
lower cholesterol. It is recommended that you take cholestyramine either two hours before or four hours after your ezetimibe dose.
Colestipol (Colestid)
Taking
colestipol with ezetimibe may cause a decrease of ezetimibe in the blood and affect its ability to lower
cholesterol. It is recommended that you take colestipol either two hours before or four hours after your ezetimibe dose.
Colesevelam (WelChol)
Taking both
WelChol and ezetimibe may cause a decrease of ezetimibe in the blood, which can affect its ability to lower cholesterol. It is recommended that you take WelChol either two hours before or four hours after your ezetimibe dose.
Warfarin
If you are taking ezetimibe simultaneously with warfarin, your body may metabolize the medicines differently than intended. When starting ezetimibe therapy and/or changing your ezetimibe dosage, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your prothrombin time or INR more closely and make any necessary adjustments. Prothrombin time and INR are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.
Cyclosporine
Taking cyclosporine together with ezetimibe may cause your body to metabolize both medicines differently than intended and cause significant reactions, including increasing the risk of developing myopathy (a potentially serious muscle problem). Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely and make necessary dosing adjustments.
