Dosage of Ezetimibe/Simvastatin for High Cholesterol

The recommended starting ezetimibe/simvastatin dose for most people with high cholesterol is 10/20 mg a day, taken with the evening meal.

After several weeks, your healthcare provider will likely recommend that you return to recheck your cholesterol levels. If you have not reached your cholesterol goal at this time, your healthcare provider may choose to increase your dose of ezetimibe/simvastatin. The dosage can also be decreased if side effects of ezetimibe/simvastatin occur.

If you take cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®) or danazol (Danacrine®), the maximum recommended dose of ezetimibe/simvastatin is 10/10 mg once daily. If you take amiodarone (Cordarone®) or verapamil (Calan®, Calan SR®, Covera-HS®, Isoptin SR®, Verelan®, Verelan PM®), the maximum recommended dose is 10/20 mg once daily.

If you need to lower your cholesterol by only a small amount, or if you have severe kidney disease, a lower ezetimibe/simvastatin dosage may be recommended.
