Side Effects of Epinastine Ophthalmic Solution

Some of the most common side effects of epinastine ophthalmic solution include runny or stuffy nose, eye redness, and sore throat. In most cases, side effects of the eye drops are mild and either do not require medical attention or can be treated easily. However, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop any signs of an eye infection or allergic reaction.

An Introduction to Epinastine Ophthalmic Solution Side Effects

As with any medicine, epinastine ophthalmic solution (Elestat®) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects of Epinastine Ophthalmic Solution

Epinastine ophthalmic solution has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented. In these studies, the most common epinastine ophthalmic solution side effects included:

  • Burning sensation in the eye
  • Eye redness
  • Eye itching
  • Tiny bumps on the inside of the eyelid (folliculosis)
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold)
  • Headaches
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sinus infection or irritation
  • Cough
  • Sore throat.

It should be noted that many of these side effects are also symptoms of allergies, and it is possible that they are not really side effects of the medicine at all.
