Tocilizumab Drug Information

Tocilizumab (Actemra®) is a prescription drug used to treat moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis. It is approved for people who have not responded well to one or more tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blocker therapies. This medicine is administered intravenously by your healthcare provider every four weeks.
 
Before starting treatment with this medication, tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medicine (including nonprescription drugs, vitamins, and supplements). Also, you may not be able to use tocilizumab safely if you have certain medical conditions, such as a current infection, a history of cancer, or multiple sclerosis.
 
Most people tolerate tocilizumab well. When side effects do occur, they are generally mild and are easily treated. Some of the common side effects reported with this product include headaches, infections, and high blood pressure.
