Temozolomide Drug Information

Temozolomide (Temodar®) is a medication used to treat adults who have certain types of brain tumors known as glioblastoma multiforme or anaplastic astrocytoma. This prescription medicine works by interfering with the replication of DNA, which slows down the growth and multiplication of cancer cells. This drug comes as a capsule that is taken by mouth or as an injection that is given slowly into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, infusion).
 
Most people who use this medicine will develop some type of side effect during treatment. Some of the most commonly reported problems include nausea, hair loss, and vomiting.
 
To ensure your safety with temozolomide, make sure your healthcare provider has current information on any other drugs you are taking (including vitamins and supplements), as well as any other medical conditions you may have. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
