Talwin Medication Information

A healthcare provider may prescribe Talwin® (pentazocine lactate) to treat moderate-to-severe pain. It can also be used before surgery or in combination with anesthesia. However, because this medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure to review the prescribing information before using it.

For example, you may not be able to use Talwin if you have certain medical conditions, such as lung problems, liver disease, or a history of drug or alcohol abuse. Also, you may not be able to safely use this product if you are currently taking certain medicines, including some vitamins, herbal supplements, and nonprescription drugs.

Although most people do not experience problems with this medication, Talwin can cause side effects. Some of the possible side effects include nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. Talwin comes as a liquid that is injected into a vein, muscle, or just under the skin every three to four hours.
