Tacrolimus Ointment Information

Tacrolimus ointment (Protopic®) is approved to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (a type of eczema) in adults and children at least two years of age. This is a "second-line" medication, which means it is reserved for use in people who have failed other treatments or who cannot use other treatments.

Prior to beginning treatment with tacrolimus ointment, inform your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have or have a history of, such as kidney disease, lymphoma, or skin cancer. In addition, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are using. Even though this product is applied to the skin, it could still react with other drugs and might increase your risk for certain complications.
