Pimozide Drug Information

Pimozide (Orap®) is a medicine licensed to treat Tourette syndrome in adults and adolescents as young as 12 years old. It comes as tablets that are taken one or more times a day.

As a type of antipsychotic, pimozide works by blocking the action of a certain brain chemical called dopamine. This can help control motor and verbal tics caused by Tourette syndrome when they interfere with a person's development or daily life.

Before starting treatment with pimozide, give your healthcare provider current information on any medications you are taking and discuss your medical history. This drug may not be safe for use in certain people, including those who are taking certain medications, people with certain allergies, or women who are pregnant or nursing.
