Peginesatide Drug Information

Peginesatide (Omontys®) is a medication licensed to treat anemia caused by chronic kidney disease. It is given as an intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous injection once a month.

Peginesatide is approved only for use in adults age 18 and older, and in combination with dialysis. This medicine works by increasing production of red blood cells by the bone marrow. Because peginesatide can sometimes cause levels of red blood cells to increase too much or too fast, the dosage should be increased gradually to minimize this risk.

Before starting treatment with peginesatide, give your healthcare provider current information on any medications you are taking and discuss your medical history. This drug may not be safe for use in certain people, including those who have uncontrolled high blood pressure or certain allergies.
