Oral Tranexamic Acid Information

Some women have particularly heavy menstrual bleeding, which can be treated with oral tranexamic acid (Lysteda™). This medication works by inhibiting the breakdown of blood clots. It comes in tablet form and is usually taken three times a day for up to five days during your menstrual period.

Prior to beginning treatment with oral tranexamic acid, your healthcare provider needs information on the length of your menstrual cycle and if you have any other medical conditions -- in particular, kidney disease or problems with your heart valves. This will help ensure that this medication is safe and appropriate for you.

(Click Oral Tranexamic Acid for more information, including possible side effects, what to do in cases of overdose, other important safety concerns, and more.)
