Megestrol ES Medication Information

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) can cause significant weight loss and malnutrition, which may be improved by using megestrol ES (Megace® ES). This prescription drug is a type of hormone therapy and comes in the form of a liquid. It is taken once a day to help stimulate appetite and cause weight gain in people with AIDS.
 
Although it may be an effective treatment, not everyone can take this medication. Information on megestrol ES should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to help minimize the risk of complications. For example, some people may have an increased risk for developing blood clots, adrenal insufficiency, or Cushing's syndrome while using this medicine.
 
Although most people do not experience any problems with megestrol ES, some people may develop side effects, such as gas, diarrhea, or a rash.
