Lomustine Drug Information

If you have brain tumors or Hodgkin's disease, your healthcare provider may prescribe lomustine (CeeNU®). Before using this chemotherapy drug, however, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other medications you are taking and any other medical problems you may have. This form of chemotherapy is not suitable for some people, and can lead to potentially serious and even life-threatening complications.

Also, most people who take lomustine will develop some type of side effect. Some of the most commonly reported problems include nausea, vomiting, and a loss of appetite.

Lomustine comes as capsules that are taken as a single dose once every six weeks. This medication should not be taken more often than every six weeks, as it takes at least this amount of time for your blood cell counts to return to normal. Lomustine can significantly lower blood cell counts, increasing your risk for anemia, infections, and bleeding.
