Flurbiprofen Ophthalmic Solution Information

Flurbiprofen ophthalmic (Ocufen®) is prescribed for use before eye surgery to help keep the pupil from constricting during the surgery. Available as an eye drop solution, flurbiprofen ophthalmic is used every 30 minutes, starting 2 hours before the surgery. Information on the potential safety concerns should be discussed with your healthcare provider prior to the surgery, as these eye drops may not be safe for people who have certain allergies or are taking certain medications.

Although many people do not have any problems while using this drug, flurbiprofen ophthalmic can cause side effects, such as eye redness, burning, and stinging. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.
