Dinoprostone Vaginal Suppository Information

The dinoprostone vaginal suppository (Prostin E2®) is a medication licensed for use in women who want to terminate a pregnancy, who have had a "missed abortion," or who have a cancer-like condition known as gestational trophoblastic disease. It is approved for use in adults age 18 and older.

This medicine comes as a suppository that is inserted high in the vagina. It works by relaxing and softening the cervix, as well as causing the uterus to contract. If needed, your healthcare provider may recommend additional suppositories every three to five hours; however, this medicine should not be used for longer than 48 hours.
Before you receive a dinoprostone vaginal suppository, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other drugs you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, as well as any allergies, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
