Bepotastine besilate (
Bepreve™) is a drug prescribed for the treatment of itching associated with eye
allergies -- a condition also known as allergic conjunctivitis. The medication can be used in children as young as two years old. It comes in the form of an eye drop that is applied in the affected eye(s) twice a day.
Bepotastine works by blocking histamine receptors in the body, and may decrease the amount of histamine the body produces as well. This can bring relief from symptoms other than eye itching, such as redness, watery eyes, and puffiness. Because not everyone should take this medicine, information your healthcare provider needs before prescribing bepotastine includes a list of all medications you are taking and any other medical conditions you have, including allergies.
