Bedaquiline Drug Information

Bedaquiline (SirturoTM) is approved for the treatment of tuberculosis that has affected the lungs and that is resistant to at least two of the main medications used to treat the disease. It is available by prescription only and comes as a tablet. It is taken once daily for 2 weeks and then three times a week for 22 more weeks.

While most people tolerate this medicine well, it is not suitable for everyone. Before starting treatment with bedaquiline, your healthcare provider will need information on all other drugs you are taking and will examine your medical history. People who have liver or kidney problems may not be able to safely use this product. Because it may cause dangerous complications like liver damage and heart rhythm problems, bedaquiline should only be used when there are no other treatment options.
