Considerations for people taking dolasetron include the following:
Dolasetron comes in tablet form. It is taken by mouth, usually within one hour before chemotherapy or within two hours before surgery.
Dolasetron also comes in an injectable form that is given through IV. Dolasetron injection can also be taken by mouth (when mixed with apple or apple-grape juice). This is useful for children who cannot swallow tablets (or who need a smaller dose than is available in tablet form).
Dolasetron can be taken with or without food. However, you may need to have an empty stomach for surgery. Be sure to ask your healthcare provider if you may take dolasetron with food.
For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
If you are unsure about anything related to your dolasetron dosage, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
