Drug Interactions With Dinoprostone Vaginal Suppository

Although the dinoprostone vaginal suppository (Prostin E2®) is unlikely to interact with most other drugs, it may react with oxytocin (Pitocin®). Oxytocin is used to stimulate labor by causing contractions of the uterus. Because dinoprostone vaginal suppositories also cause uterine contractions, they may increase the effects of oxytocin. The manufacturer of dinoprostone vaginal suppositories recommends they not be used in combination with other medications that stimulate contractions of the uterus.
It is possible that not all dinoprostone vaginal suppository drug interactions were discussed in this article. Although these suppositories are not expected to interact with most medications, it is important to remember that they have not been studied with every medicine. Drug interactions may be discovered in the future. Therefore, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and vitamins or supplements.
