Dinoprostone Vaginal Insert

When and How to Use Dinoprostone Vaginal Inserts

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with dinoprostone vaginal inserts include the following:
  • This medication comes in the form of a vaginal insert. It is inserted high into the vagina, near the cervix.
  • A dinoprostone vaginal insert should only be placed in the vagina by a trained medical provider in a hospital setting. Your healthcare provider will remove the insert when it is no longer needed.
  • You will be lying down when the medication is inserted. You will need to remain lying down for at least two hours to make sure the insert stays in place.
  • Dinoprostone vaginal inserts come in an individually sealed foil pouch. The medication must be inserted immediately after removal from the pouch. The pouch should not be opened with scissors or sharp objects, as this could potentially damage the medication.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
