Drug Interactions With Dextromethorphan and Quinidine

Atomoxetine
Dextromethorphan and quinidine may increase atomoxetine levels in your blood, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may choose to give you a lower atomoxetine dose if you take dextromethorphan and quinidine.

Beta Blockers
Combining dextromethorphan and quinidine with a beta blocker medication could increase the level of the beta blocker in your blood. This may cause low blood pressure or a slow heart rate. If you take a beta blocker, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely when you first start or stop taking dextromethorphan and quinidine.

Calcium Channel Blockers
Combining a calcium channel blocker with dextromethorphan and quinidine may decrease dextromethorphan and quinidine blood levels in the body, potentially making it less effective. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors may increase dextromethorphan and quinidine blood levels, increasing your risk for side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Certain Statin Medications
Dextromethorphan and quinidine may increase the level of certain statin medications in the blood, potentially increasing the risk for side effects. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Codeine
Codeine must be converted into morphine in the body to provide pain relief. Dextromethorphan and quinidine decreases the amount of codeine converted into morphine, decreasing the effectiveness of codeine. If you take codeine with dextromethorphan and quinidine, you may notice that it does not work as well to relieve your pain. You may need a different pain medication.
