Drug Interactions With Dexlansoprazole

Ampicillin
Dexlansoprazole may decrease the absorption of ampicillin into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Atazanavir
Dexlansoprazole may decrease the absorption of atazanavir into the body, making it less effective. For this reason, you should not take dexlansoprazole if you are taking atazanavir.

Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Some research suggests that proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), like dexlansoprazole, may decrease the effectiveness of clopidogrel. This could potentially be a serious drug interaction. However, experts are still in disagreement about how significant this interaction really is and whether it affects all PPIs. Do not combine these medications without discussing the matter with your healthcare provider first.

Digoxin
Dexlansoprazole may decrease the absorption of digoxin into the body. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your digoxin levels (using a simple blood test), especially when you start or stop taking dexlansoprazole. Dexlansoprazole may cause low blood magnesium levels, which can lead to serious arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms), especially in people taking digoxin. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking digoxin and dexlansoprazole.

Certain Diuretics (as Previously Listed)
Dexlansoprazole can cause low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia). Because certain diuretics can also cause this problem, combining dexlansoprazole with one of these diuretics could cause severely low blood magnesium levels, which may lead to serious side effects such as muscle spasms, irregular heart rhythms, or seizures. Your healthcare provider may decide to monitor your magnesium levels periodically if you are taking dexlansoprazole with one of these diuretics.

Erlotinib
Dexlansoprazole may decrease the absorption of erlotinib into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Iron
Dexlansoprazole may decrease the absorption of iron into the body. If you take iron for anemia, talk with your healthcare provider before taking dexlansoprazole.
