Dexamethasone Intravitreal Implant Dosage

The dexamethasone intravitreal implant is injected directly into your affected eye(s) by your healthcare provider. There is only standard one dosage of the dexamethasone intravitreal implant, although your healthcare provider may need to repeat the injection in certain cases. In the days following your procedure, you will need to be monitored closely; make sure to keep all of your follow-up appointments.

An Introduction to Your Dose of the Dexamethasone Intravitreal Implant

There is only one standard dosage for the dexamethasone intravitreal implant (Ozurdex®), regardless of your age or the condition being treated. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosing unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dexamethasone Intravitreal Implant Dosage Guidelines

The standard dose of the dexamethasone intravitreal implant is one 0.7-mg intravitreal implant inserted into the affected eye(s). Your healthcare provider may recommend a repeat injection if he or she believes you may benefit from another treatment.

General Information on Using the Dexamethasone Intravitreal Implant

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with the dexamethasone intravitreal implant include the following:
  • This medication is injected into the vitreous humor inside the eye (this is called an intravitreal injection).
  • The dexamethasone intravitreal implant dissolves inside the eye and does not need to be removed.
  • A healthcare provider will administer the injection.
  • Your healthcare provider will monitor you closely in the days following your procedure. It is important to keep all your follow-up appointments.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.
