Desonide Gel Dosage

If you are using desonide gel, dosing guidelines call for the medication to be applied to the affected area twice a day. This product is meant for use in people as young as three months old, but should never be used on skin covered by a diaper. Desonide gel should not be used for more than four weeks at a time.

An Introduction to Dosing With Desonide Gel

There is only one standard dosage for desonide gel (Desonate®), regardless of your age or weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Desonide Gel Dosage for Atopic Dermatitis

The standard starting dose of desonide gel for treating atopic dermatitis in people age three months and older is a small amount applied twice daily. Gently rub the gel into the skin, being careful not to damage the irritated skin. Wash your hands after applying the gel, unless you are treating your hands.

In general, you should stop using desonide gel once the atopic dermatitis is under control. If no improvement is seen within four weeks, your healthcare provider may need to reconsider your diagnosis. Do not use desonide gel for more than four weeks at a time. Although it is very effective, unfortunately, it cannot be used on a long-term basis.

Do not apply this medication to the diaper area.
