Desloratadine: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider before taking desloratadine if you have:
 
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Phenylketonuria (if taking the orally disintegrating tablet).
     
Let your healthcare provider know if you:
 
  • Are pregnant or are thinking about becoming pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding
  • Have any allergies, including allergies to desloratadine or to Claritin®.
     
Also tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
 
Finally, make sure to contact your healthcare provider or 911 immediately if you experience any difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Desloratadine Overdose

If you happen to overdose on desloratadine, seek medical attention immediately. Desloratadine overdose symptoms may include:
 
  • Excessive sleepiness
  • Increased heart rate.
     

Desloratadine Storage Methods

All desloratadine should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture. This includes both desloratadine tablets and syrup.
 
Keep desloratadine and all medications out of the reach of children.
 

What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose of Desloratadine?

If you forget to take a dose of desloratadine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosing schedule. Never double your dose of desloratadine at one time.
