Drug Interactions With Dalteparin

Other Medications That "Thin" the Blood
Other medications that have anticoagulant, antiplatelet, or thrombolytic effects may increase the risk of bleeding with dalteparin. Always check with your healthcare provider before combining dalteparin with any such medications. Sometimes, these medications (especially thrombolytics, aspirin, or warfarin) are combined intentionally with dalteparin.

Additional Information and Notable Exceptions

Dalteparin does not interact with vitamin K or foods rich in vitamin K. People often mistakenly assume that it does, as warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®), an oral anticoagulant, interacts with vitamin K. Of course, you must still follow the usual dietary restrictions if you are taking warfarin and dalteparin together. However, if you are taking just dalteparin, there are no dietary restrictions.

Dalteparin does not interact with acetaminophen (Tylenol®). Therefore, acetaminophen is usually the preferred over-the-counter pain or fever medication for people using dalteparin.

It should be noted that herbal medications may interact unpredictably with dalteparin, perhaps increasing the risk of bleeding or possibly making dalteparin less effective. Therefore, check with your healthcare provider before combining any herbal medication with dalteparin.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all dalteparin drug interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about any specific interactions that may apply to you.
