Cyanocobalamin Nasal Spray
Available by prescription only, cyanocobalamin nasal spray is used once a week to help boost vitamin B12 levels. This medicine is designed for people who have a certain type of anemia and have already had successful treatment with injectable forms of the vitamin. It can also be used as a supplement in people who have vitamin B12 deficiency. Side effects may include infections, nausea, and headaches.
What Is Cyanocobalamin Nasal Spray?Cyanocobalamin nasal spray (Nascobal®) is a prescription nasal spray approved to maintain normal vitamin B12 levels in people with pernicious anemia (a type of anemia caused by low levels of vitamin B12) who have already been successfully treated with injectable vitamin B12. It is also used as a vitamin B12 supplement in people with vitamin B12 deficiency due to certain other medical conditions or diets. It is a synthetic (laboratory-made) form of vitamin B12.
Cyanocobalamin nasal spray used to be available as a nasal gel; however, the gel form is no longer being made. The medication now comes as a nasal spray.

Are There Side Effects?Just like any medicine, cyanocobalamin nasal spray may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
