The painkiller
Ultram® (
tramadol hydrochloride) is an opioid medication, but is it a
controlled substance? Technically, it is classified as neither a narcotic nor a controlled substance. However, this could change in the future.
Ultram was originally marketed as a product with little potential for abuse or addiction, but has since been reported to cause many cases of dependence and abuse. In fact, the state of Kentucky has already classified tramadol (the active ingredient in Ultram) as a controlled substance, and it is possible that other states will follow suit.
