What If I Take an Overdose?
Since colestipol does not get absorbed into the body, there is little risk for toxic effects. However, if you happen to take too much, you should still seek medical attention.
How Should This Medicine Be Stored?
Colestipol should be stored at room temperature in a tightly closed container. It should be protected from light and moisture. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
What Should I Do If I Miss a Dose?
If you forget to take a dose of colestipol, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Forms and Strengths of Colestipol
Colestipol comes in two forms -- tablets and granules. The tablets are available in one strength, with each tablet containing 1 gram of medication. The granules come in either a packet or can. Each packet contains 5 grams of medication. One scoopful of granules from the can also contains 5 grams of medication.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved a generic version of colestipol.
