Ciclesonide Dosing

The recommended ciclesonide dosage is one or two sprays in each nostril once daily, depending on the product you are using. Do not try to inhale the nasal spray or breathe in too deeply, as the drug works when it comes in contact with the inside surfaces of the nose. Ciclesonide dosing is the same for adults and children, regardless of the type of allergies.

Ciclesonide Dosing: An Introduction

The dose of ciclesonide (Omnaris®, Zetonna™) your healthcare provider recommends will depend on the particular ciclesonide product you are using. As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Ciclesonide Dosing for Nasal Allergies

The recommended starting dose of ciclesonide nasal spray (Omnaris) for treating nasal allergies (both seasonal and year-round) is two sprays in each nostril once a day. This dose can be used in adults and children age six years and up (for seasonal allergies) or children age 12 years and older (for year-round allergies).
The recommended ciclesonide nasal aerosol (Zetonna) dose for treating nasal allergies (both seasonal and year-round) is one spray in each nostril once a day. This amount can be used in adults and children as young as 12 years old.

General Information on Dosing With Ciclesonide

Considerations for people taking ciclesonide include the following:
  • The medication comes in nasal spray and nasal aerosol form. It is usually taken just once a day.
  • Ciclesonide must be primed by spraying the bottle into the air before the first use and again if not used for four to ten days. Be sure to follow the instructions for priming the particular ciclesonide product you are using.
  • The specific instructions for use will depend on the particular ciclesonide product you have been prescribed. Make sure to read the information that came with your prescription, so you know how to properly use the medication.
  • Avoid aiming the spray toward the wall that separates your nostrils (in the middle of your nose, called the nasal septum). Spraying ciclesonide toward the nasal septum increases the risk of nosebleeds. Some people find it easiest to avoid this by holding the bottle in the opposite hand (using the right hand to spray into the left nostril and vice versa).
  • Discard your bottle of ciclesonide nasal spray (Omnaris) after 120 sprays or within four months of removing it from its foil pouch, whichever comes first. Discard ciclesonide nasal aerosol (Zetonna) when there is a zero in the dose indicator window. Even though it may seem like there is medicine left in the bottle, you may not get the full dose.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Ciclesonide will not work if you stop taking it.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to ciclesonide dosing, please talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
