Drug Interactions With Bromfenac

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Bromfenac

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative reactions that can occur when bromfenac is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Corticosteroid Eye Medications
Bromfenac has the potential to delay or slow down wound healing. Corticosteroid (also simply called steroid) eye medicines can also slow down or delay healing. Combining the two medications may increase the risk for problems with healing. If you are using a steroid eye medication, talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using bromfenac.

Latanoprost
Bromday could decrease the effectiveness of latanoprost. If you use latanoprost, speak with your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before using bromfenac.

Medications That Thin the Blood
Bromfenac belongs to a group of medicines known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding problems, including serious internal bleeding. The risk for bleeding problems is even higher when NSAIDs are combined with anticoagulants or antiplatelets (commonly described as "blood thinners").

It is unlikely that bromfenac would actually cause serious internal bleeding problems, as very little (if any) of the medication is absorbed from the eye into the bloodstream with normal use.

However, there have been reports that NSAID eye medicines, such as bromfenac, may increase the risk for bleeding of eye tissue after eye surgery. Blood thinners could theoretically further increase this risk. Therefore, it is important that your healthcare provider knows if you take an anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicine.

Final Thoughts

It is possible that not all bromfenac drug interactions were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about the specific interactions that may apply to you.
