Bortezomib

When and How to Receive This Medication

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with bortezomib include the following:

  • This medication is given as an injection, either into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, injection) or just under the skin (a subcutaneous injection).

  • The injection is administered by a healthcare provider in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital or clinic.

  • Your healthcare provider will tell you if you have to take other medications with bortezomib; make sure to follow these directions carefully.

  • When given as a subcutaneous injection, bortezomib is usually injected into the thigh or abdomen (stomach). The injection site should vary so that each new injection is given at least one inch from a previous injection site.

  • Subcutaneous injections should not be given into areas of the skin that are red, bruised, tender, or otherwise irritated.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed. It is important to keep all of your appointments to receive your bortezomib dose.
