Available by prescription only, bortezomib (Velcade®) is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma (a type of cancer of the bone marrow) and mantle cell lymphoma (a type of cancer of the white blood cells). It is approved for use in adults only, and is given as an injection by your healthcare provider.
Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is the manufacturer of bortezomib. Only the brand-name product is available at this time, as patents currently prevent any company from making generic versions of the drug. However, after the first patent expires in May 2017, companies may be able to make generic versions of bortezomib.
Bortezomib is available in one strength: Bortezomib 3.5 mg in a 10-mL vial. Your particular dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the condition being treated, your height and weight, and various other factors.
