Belimumab (Benlysta®) is a prescription product used in adults who have lupus. It is given via an injection into the vein (this is also called an intravenous or IV injection). Belimumab is usually given every two weeks for the first three doses and then once a month. To help minimize the risk of allergic reactions, you will likely receive certain medications before each dose. Belimumab is designed to be used in conjunction with other lupus treatments, not by itself.
