Before prescribing a specific belatacept dosage, your healthcare provider will need to know how much you weigh. This medication comes in the form of an intravenous (IV) injection that is administered by a healthcare provider. You will receive several infusions during the first 16 weeks after your kidney transplant, and then infusions will be administered every four weeks as a maintenance dose.
An Introduction to Your Dosage of BelataceptThe dosage of belatacept (NULOJIX®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on your weight. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
Belatacept Dosing GuidelinesThe initial dosage of belatacept for preventing kidney transplant rejection is usually 10 mg per kg body weight (about 4.5 mg per lb) starting the day of the transplant surgery. A second dosage will be given about four days later (approximately 96 hours after the first dose), followed by doses given 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after surgery.
Belatacept maintenance dosing will begin 16 weeks after surgery. The usual recommended maintenance dose of belatacept is 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per lb) approximately every four weeks (every 25 to 31 days).
