Basiliximab Side Effects

Common Side Effects

Basiliximab has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people given basiliximab were documented and compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people given a placebo (an injection with no active ingredients). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo.
 
In these studies, common side effects that occurred in at least 10 percent of people given basiliximab included but were not limited to:
 
 
Other common side effects, occurring in 3 percent to 10 percent of people, included but were not limited to:
 
  • Loss of strength or weakness
  • Chest pain
  • Fatigue
  • General discomfort
  • Chills
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Abdominal (stomach) swelling
  • Gassiness
  • An overgrowth of gum tissue
  • Bleeding in the digestive tract (gastrointestinal bleeding)
  • Thrush (a fungal infection in the mouth)
  • Abnormal heartbeat (arrhythmia)
  • Fast heart rate
  • Weight gain
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Back and leg pain
  • Cramps
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Dizziness
  • Tingling, numbing, or pricking sensations
  • Erectile dysfunction (impotence)
  • Coughing
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Excessive hair growth
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Vision problems.
