Your age and weight (in children) are some of the factors that your healthcare provider will take into consideration before administering basiliximab. Your healthcare provider will administer this medicine using an intravenous (IV) injection or infusion.

An Introduction to Your Dosage of Basiliximab

The dose of basiliximab (Simulect®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on your age and weight (in children). As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Basiliximab Dosing Guidelines

The usual dose of basiliximab for the prevention of kidney transplant rejection in adults is 20 mg within two hours of the transplant surgery, followed by 20 mg four days later.
The usual dosage of basiliximab for the prevention of kidney transplant rejection in children who weigh less than 35 kg (77 pounds) is 10 mg within two hours of the transplant surgery, followed by 10 mg four days later. Children who weigh 35 kg or more (at least 77 pounds) are usually given the normal adult dosage.
Your healthcare provider may recommend you not receive the second basiliximab dosage if you experience a serious allergic reaction after the first dose, or if your transplanted kidney fails before the second dose is given.
