Common side effects of azelastine that were seen in clinical studies included drowsiness, bitter taste, headaches, and nasal burning. There are also some side effects that, while occurring less frequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to a healthcare provider. Seek medical attention if you experience azelastine side effects such as signs of an allergic reaction or excessive drowsiness.
Side Effects of Azelastine: An Introduction
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with
azelastine hydrochloride (
Astelin®). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with azelastine. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of azelastine side effects with you.)
