Drug Interactions With Azelaic Acid Cream

Azelaic acid cream (Azelex®) is a prescription acne medication that is applied to the skin. Significant drug interactions between azelaic acid cream and other medications are unlikely.

Although azelaic acid cream is typically gentle, it can be irritating to the skin for some people, especially at first (see Side Effects of Azelaic Acid Cream). Use caution when combining azelaic acid cream with other skin medications or products that are irritating to the skin, as this could make any irritation worse.

In fact, you may have to temporarily stop using some skin products during treatment with azelaic acid cream, so tell your healthcare provider about any other skin products you are using, including sunscreen, cleansers, moisturizers, cosmetics, and so on.

Although azelaic acid cream is unlikely to interact seriously with other medications, there may be drug interactions that have yet to be discovered. Therefore, make sure to check with your healthcare provider about any possible interactions that may apply to you.
