Common Side Effects of Atorvastatin

Atorvastatin has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, side effects are always documented. The most common side effects thought to be related to atorvastatin were:
 
Other common side effects that were observed in 2 to 4 percent of people included:
 
  • Unexplained rash
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
  • General feeling of weakness (asthenia)
  • The flu
  • Back pain
  • Allergic reaction
  • Constipation
  • Inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis)
  • Sore throat (pharyngitis).
      

Rare Side Effects

During clinical studies, some side effects occurred in less than 2 percent of people taking atorvastatin. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it is difficult to tell whether they are a result of the medication or something else.
