Atarax 50 mg Tablets

Atarax® (hydroxyzine hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine approved for various uses. It comes in several different forms and strengths, including:
  • Hydroxyzine hydrochloride (Atarax) 10 mg tablets
  • Hydroxyzine hydrochloride (Atarax) 25 mg tablets
  • Hydroxyzine hydrochloride (Atarax) 50 mg tablets
  • Hydroxyzine hydrochloride (Atarax) 10 mg per 5 mL syrup.
Adults being treated for anxiety usually take 100 mg or 50 mg Atarax tablets four times daily. For children over age six, the dosage is 50 to 100 mg daily in "divided" doses (two to four doses daily). For children under age six, the recommendation is 50 mg daily in divided doses.
Before or After General Anesthesia
The standard Atarax dose when used as a sedative for use before or after general anesthesia for adults is 50 to 100 mg. The amount for children is based on weight (0.6 mg per pound of body weight).
The standard dosage for treating itching in adults is 25 mg three or four times daily. For children over age six, the recommendation is Atarax 50 mg to 100 mg in divided doses. Children under age six may take 50 mg tablets daily in divided doses.
