Drug Interactions With Aranelle

Antibiotics, barbiturates, and many seizure medications may interact with Aranelle. Drug interactions such as these can interfere with the effectiveness of Aranelle, increasing your risk of pregnancy. Some of these drug interactions with Aranelle can also increase your risk of developing side effects. Before starting the birth control pill, make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking.

An Introduction to Drug Interactions With Aranelle

Aranelle™ (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with many other medicines. A number of these interactions can be quite severe and may even lead to accidental pregnancy. In these instances, a backup method of birth control may be required, in order to prevent pregnancy. If you do not know what to do about an Aranelle drug interaction, make sure to use a backup method of birth control until you can speak with your healthcare provider.
 
Some of the medicines that may lead to Aranelle interactions include:
 
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, including, but not limited to:

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Many seizure medications, such as:

 

 

 

 

(Aranelle is a generic version of Tri-Norinyl® and is also equivalent to Leena® birth control pills. The information in this article also applies to each of these medications.)
