Aprepitant Dosing

Aprepitant Dosing for Surgery

The recommended aprepitant dose for the prevention of nausea and vomiting due to surgery is 40 mg within three hours before the start of surgery.

General Aprepitant Dosage Information

Considerations for people taking aprepitant include the following:
  • Aprepitant comes in capsule form. It is taken by mouth, usually one hour before chemotherapy or within three hours before surgery. Surgery patients take just one dose, while chemotherapy patients usually take two more doses (in the next two mornings after the first dose). Aprepitant is also available in an injection (given by IV) that can be used in place of the oral dose for use before chemotherapy.
  • Aprepitant can be taken with or without food. However, you may need to have an empty stomach for surgery. Be sure to ask your healthcare provider if you may take aprepitant with food.
  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to your aprepitant dosage, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
