Antivert Medicine

Antivert® (meclizine hydrochloride) is a medication approved to treat vertigo or to treat and prevent motion sickness. This product is available in prescription and non-prescription forms. It is approved for adults and children as young as 12 years old. Antivert comes in tablet form and is typically taken once or twice a day.

As a type of antihistamine medicine, Antivert works by blocking histamine receptors. However, it probably works for motion sickness by blocking acetylcholine receptors (by its "anticholinergic" activity).

Although most people do not experience any problems with Antivert, this medicine is not suitable for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and non-prescription medicines), as well as any other medical conditions you may have.
