Echinacea
Echinacea could decrease the effectiveness of Afinitor. Do not take echinacea during Afinitor treatment without first talking with your healthcare provider.

Leflunomide
Taking Afinitor with leflunomide may increase your risk for blood cell problems. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Live Vaccinations
Because Afinitor may weaken the immune system, it is generally recommended that people not receive live vaccinations during Afinitor treatment and for at least three months after treatment ends. Recommended routine vaccinations should be given before starting Afinitor, if possible.

Natalizumab

P-glycoprotein (Pgp) Inducers
P-glycoprotein is a natural protein that helps remove substances, such as medications, out of body tissues so they can be excreted through the urine or feces. Pgp helps remove Afinitor from the body. Medications known as Pgp inducers increase the activity of Pgp.

Taking Afinitor with one of these Pgp inducers causes Afinitor to be removed from the body too quickly, potentially making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these drugs together. You may need a higher Afinitor dose.

P-glycoprotein (Pgp) Inhibitors
P-glycoprotein is a natural protein that helps remove substances, such as medications, out of the tissues so they can be excreted through the urine or feces. Pgp helps remove Afinitor from the body. Medications known as Pgp inhibitors decrease the activity of Pgp.

Taking Afinitor with one of these Pgp inhibitors causes Afinitor to be removed more slowly, potentially increasing the amount of Afinitor in your body and increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely if you take these drugs together and lower your dose of Afinitor if needed.
